Lynx View

A new crschmidt.net webservice:

lynxview, converting based on a domain name to a lynx -dump form. For when you want to show some windows user just how crap their website is with all the graphics turned off.

As a form of demonstration, check out crschmidt.net or Planet Mobile.

Currently, sites are cached eternally, so that the service can’t be used to DDoS some poor site.

Produced in part by a request from DanC on #swig earlier today.

So, kind of like http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html , only different?

    (For example, without the ads.)

Even more so like W3C service — amusing, since a W3C member is the one who originally asked for the service.

The Delorie one has the problem that it only works if you specifically allow it via a page on the site: delorie.htm must exist in the target site. So, that makes it a bit more difficult to use if you just want to show something to people creating crappy websites.

However, the W3C one has no such limitations, and looks to be generated via the same method, so I don’t think there’s any reason for mine to exist, other than it’s handy to have these things lying around for myself.
