I've just uploaded v0.02, which includes a "where are the satellites" 
view. It's based on a second canvas, and swapping between those two works 
fine.

Ah, that might be it. I did wonder about lots of the sample apps having 
locks in. I guess I'll need a dedicated thread for reading the bluetooth 
data then?

No worries. I just head a head-desk about my trig for plotting the 
satellites' locations, so I know the feeling :)
