OpenLayers: Not quite Kool-Aid

Is OpenLayers Kool-Aid for developers? Not quite, according to Andrew Turner:

    how about,
    here’s some sugar cane, a flavor packet, some recipes (http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/) and all the hand-holding (http://crschmidt.net/irc/openlayers/log.cgi/2008-02-28) you could ask for, see you in IRC or the mailing list if you have some questions.
